Laboratory for the study of archaeological materials

The department has two specific Laboratories in Bologna and in the U.O.S. in Ravenna, where they take turns in conserving resources from digs and that are used to experiment specific techniques for the analisis of artefacts, from the design executed according to the normal ways for archaeological representation to the indexing of single pieces.

The lab in Bologna can be found in the basement of the archaeological library, in the San Giovanni in Monte complex. The space is equipped with teaching equipment and the different studies on resources coming from digs directed by the teachers from the Archaeology department.

The equipment for drawing artefacts available are:

  • Profilometers for the acquisition of profiles
  • Callipers

Other than the computing equipment and the microscopes for the analytical study of the artefacts, in particular:

  • 1 PC
  • 1 A4 Scanner
  • 3 Sterostopic table Microscopes
  • 1 Biological Microscope
  • 2 Portable USB Microscopes

Teaching laboratories are held here, for drawing and indexing archaeological artefacts, divided by time period (from the bronze age to the late ancient age) and laboratories connected to Bioarcheology: Botanical archaeology, zoological archaeology and funerary archaeology.
