Services

Consultation and borrowing

Access and consultation are open to all categories of users. The research unit libraries in Piazza S. Giovanni in Monte, Via Guerrazzi and the Historic Archives have a large collection of books and ancient maps. These materials are not available for loan but can be consulted in the research unit libraries (for an appointment for Medieval, modern and contemporary history, please email: sgm.servizibiblio@unibo.it, for geography email  giuseppe.nicolini@unibo.it , for the Historical Archives email chiara.cocchi@unibo.it 

Borrowing

University students, PhD students and University staff are entitled to borrow books. The first time users borrow a book they must enrol, showing an official picture ID and the University badge ID (if students).

Textbooks and teaching resources

The Library assures the availability of each textbook adopted by the courses taught at the Department.

Photocopying

Self-service photocopiers and scanner are available in all research unit libraries. The photocopiers work with prepaid cards, costing 5 Euros (94 copies). All libraries at the University of Bologna use the same type of cards.

Photographs may be taken for non-commercial research or private study only within the limit of 15% of the whole test (Italian Law 633/1941).

Inter-library lending and document delivery

The Department library exchanges materials with other libraries via the Inter-library loan and document delivery service. Both national and international services are available.

Bibliographic information

The Library staff gladly offers help and research information to students, researchers and professors.

Users also might use the online service “Ask a librarian”, which allows patrons to submit reference questions to libraries. Requests are sorted and forwarded to the specific library pertaining to the subject.

Catalogue consultation and the University online resources

The library offers computers to consult catalogues and the online resources subscribed by the university and to navigate the Internet. The university account is needed.

Bibliographic research and Information literacy

Services available by appointment to assist students with subject-bibliographies, articles and periodicals in catalogues and databases. This service is highly recommended to students preparing their dissertations.
